of the deadliest threats that the present generation would relate to, is the threat of category 4 and category 5 hurricanes all around the globe, especially in the Atlantic region. If we compare the number of these severe natural hazards from 1970-1985 and 1990-2005, we find that because of a supposed ‘insignificant’ rise in sea temperature of 0.5 degree Fahrenheit, the hurricanes have almost doubled – both in number and intensity! Fathom this: the energy released be a hurricane has increased by 70%, with 15% increase in wind speed in the past 30 years or so! And what’s more, these are estimated to increase exponentially in the near future!
