Now, it only takes Rs.100

Miniaturization continues to transcend our wildest dreams; and here’s another example. Very recently, Reliance Mutual Fund launched a Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) which requires a meagre bit sized investment of Rs. 100. Prior to this, UTI Mutual Fund had also launched a SIP with a minimum stipulated investment as low as Rs. 50 (only for its retirement benefit plans). Well, these developments portend far reaching consequences for the investing community. If one digs into the concept of SIP, the instrument embodies a number of advantages.

Marketplace

The second rule: When it comes to gaining marketplace advantage, you just can’t be secretive enough. There’s a breakthrough product in the works, for instance, or a bold acquisition under consideration. Managers should fight to keep such information confidential, otherwise there could be no strategic surprise. That’s one of the perfectly legitimate weapons of business ‘warfare’. The third rule: Communicating with employees about “Oh-God- No!” kind of changes, such as plant closings or layoffs. Obviously, companies should never let employees be the last to know the details of such life-altering events. Indeed, they should be the first – that’s the rule.

World Economic Outlook (WEO)
According to IMF’s WEO, Korea’s GDP grew by 5% in 2006, followed by US which expanded by 3.3%. France’s GDP expanded the least by 2% in 2006 amongst the nations mentioned in the table. According to the projections of WEO, Korea will continue to lead the pack but the growth will probably slowdown to 4.4% in 2007, followed by UK, which is expected to grow at 2.9%

A place for ‘Indian Hotels’ in Campton

The Indian Hotels Company Ltd., popularly known as Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces has acquired San Francisco’s Hotel Campton Place through its US subsidiary. The 110- room, four-star hotel was purchased for a sum of $60 million aided by financial investors. Hotel Campton Palace is Taj’s second major acquisition in the US after the $170 million buy-out of Ritz-Carlton, Boston, hotel in January.

AMD lowers revenue outlook

Even though its quarterly revenue would fall below Wall Street expectations by almost 20%, AMD’s (Advanced Micro Device) market share rose by 3.8% on the New York Stock Exchange after it announced that it would cut off its capital spending by nearly 20%. The loss in the revenue has been attributed to losing out on the market share amongst small independent PC makers. By lowering price volumes, AMD has further given rise to speculations of a price war with Intel. However, Intel’s response to this new threat remains to be seen.
